The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) is reminding members that documentation and data readiness remains a key priority as work continues on motor finance commission matters. As part of ongoing engagement with the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Conduct Authority , the NFDA is encouraging retailers to take proactive steps to reconcile and organise historic files. Members are advised to prioritise: Finance Application Records and Terms Locating customer applications and affordability records were held Retaining evidence of agreed finance terms, including credit agreements, SECCI and e-signature records Commission Agreements with All Lenders Compiling historic dealer–lender agreements and commission schedules Mapping which commission structures applied by period, product and lender Recording changes to rate discretion, caps, bonuses and payment arrangements Disclosures Made to Customers at Point of Sale Collecting all versions of disclosure documents and scripted explanations Retaining digital journey records and historic showroom materials Identifying when each version was in use and how commission was described Historical Commission Models Used Listing commission models used over time (including DCA, fixed fees, percentage-based and volume-related incentives) Linking models to relevant periods, products and lenders Recording internal guidance, targets and any changes made to reduce conflicts Commenting, Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of the NFDA, said: “As your trade association, we want to encourage all our members to take proportionate, proactive steps now to prepare for the FCA’s forthcoming motor finance redress guidance. Ensuring historic records, customer disclosures and commission arrangements are complete, organised and accessible is good business practice. “It also demonstrates strong governance, helps protect reputation, and promotes confidence among customers and lenders. Given that the period under review spans many years and presents significant challenges, taking action now will help ensure members are well placed to respond efficiently to lender and regulator requests.” The NFDA will issue further suggested actions over the coming weeks and will continue to work closely with regulators, the Ombudsman and lenders as matters develop. Members requiring additional support are encouraged to contact NFDA Business Solutions on 0207 307 3422 or nfda@rmif.co.uk.
