The Government’s decision to remove planning requirements for certain home electric vehicle charging installations has been backed by National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), who say the move will help make switching to an EV easier and more affordable for motorists.

From Wednesday 21 October, drivers without off-street parking will no longer need planning permission for qualifying cross-pavement charging solutions, potentially saving up to £300 in installation costs.

Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of NFDA, said:

‘Making home charging easier and more affordable is good news for motorists and another positive step towards encouraging EV uptake. With the ZEV Mandate under review, measures that support consumer demand are more important than ever.’
