Plug-in van grant extension On Wednesday, the UK government announced £120 million in funding to help drivers, businesses, and taxi operators transition to zero-emission vehicles. The Plug-in Van Grant has been extended for another year, offering up to £2,500 for small electric vans up to 2.5 tonnes and up to £5,000 for larger vans up to 4.25 tonnes. The Government also announced that it will be removing the additional training requirement for zero-emission vans, which previously applied only to electric models and not their petrol or diesel counterparts. This change aims to reduce costs and simplify hiring processes for businesses. Support for taxi drivers is also being extended, with £4,000 grants available for purchasing zero-emission black cabs. Additionally, the cap on the Plug-in Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Grant is being raised from £35,000 to £50,000 , expanding options for disabled passengers. Motorcyclists will continue to receive £500 grants towards the purchase of electric motorbikes. The number of public chargers has risen to 74,000 , with nearly 20,000 added last year , and an additional £200 million committed to expanding the network further. Extension to the Workplace Charging Scheme and the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant Today, the Government announced that over 1,400 chargepoints have now been installed at schools and colleges across the country through a £3 million investment from the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) . Since 2016, this scheme has funded over 59,000 workplace charging sockets , with an additional 6,500 added in 2024 . Schools have the option to open their chargepoints to local residents , making charging more accessible while generating extra revenue.
