Dear colleague,
NFDA has backed Government efforts to ensure the UK automotive sector can fully benefit from the EU’s proposed ‘Made in Europe’ measures. The UK and European automotive markets are closely connected and it is important that British-built vehicles and businesses are not placed at a disadvantage. We support efforts to secure full UK access and avoid additional barriers that could ultimately affect retailers, vehicle choice and affordability.
Our F&I Working Group, together with NFDA Business Solutions, has developed a new Negative Equity Best Practice Guide for franchised retailers. With negative equity becoming an increasingly important consideration in vehicle finance, the guidance is designed to help businesses take a consistent and responsible approach while supporting good customer relationships.
My latest column for Auto Sunday is now live, about what I believe will be one of our industry’s next big tests and opportunities: talent. As AI, economic uncertainty and changing expectations reshape the workplace, attracting and retaining the next generation will be increasingly important. Automotive retail has a huge amount to offer and through Drive My Career we are working to connect more young people with apprenticeships, entry-level positions and long-term careers.
Our next round of NFDA Regional Meetings is now only a few weeks away, beginning with the Southern meeting on 6 October (full schedule below). These meetings give us an important opportunity to hear directly from members, so we hope to see many of you there.
Looking further ahead, Driving Automotive 2026 – New Brand Entrants takes place at Lord’s Cricket Ground on 15 December. I will be hosting the event, which will bring together industry leaders, OEMs and dealers to look at the growing presence of new brands in the UK and what this means for automotive retail. The agenda will cover global market trends, the experience of launching and representing new entrants and the challenges and opportunities facing dealer groups. Attendance is free for NFDA members.
NADA Show also returns to Orlando from 17-20 February 2027, where NFDA members can join us for four days at one of the industry’s biggest international events. Our Early Bird package, priced at £3,368 + VAT, covers four nights at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, International Member registration and a dealership visit. Members can also attend the NADA Welcome Reception at Universal Epic Universe. Contact us for further details and to register.
As ever, please keep in touch with the NFDA team. With Regional Meetings approaching and Party Conference Season already here, our door is always open for discussion and I look forward to seeing many of you over the coming weeks.
