Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) temporary pause on handling certain motor finance commission complaints came to an end on 31 May 2026, marking an important development for firms across the sector. Members should be aware that firms are now expected to resume normal complaint-handling processes where applicable. Given the continued media attention surrounding potential motor finance compensation, retailers may also see an increase in customer enquiries and complaints over the coming months. NFDA encourages members to review their complaint-handling procedures to ensure they remain up to date and that relevant staff are familiar with escalation processes, reporting requirements and internal responsibilities. Members should also ensure that records relating to historic finance agreements and customer interactions are retained and can be accessed if required. Retailers are advised to continue liaising closely with their finance provider partners regarding responsibilities for complaint handling and customer communications, particularly where there may be shared obligations or customer queries relating to historic arrangements. Further announcements are expected as the review progresses. NFDA will continue to monitor developments closely and keep members informed of any significant updates.
