Representatives from across the commercial vehicle sector met last week at Keltruck’s headquarters in West Bromwich for the latest Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) Steering Group meeting. Launched in 2025 and administered by the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, part of the Society of Operations Engineers, MPRS was established to improve and promote high standards of HGV maintenance and roadworthiness. The scheme provides independent assessments of commercial vehicle maintenance providers, giving operators reassurance that participating workshops meet recognised industry standards. Since its introduction, a growing number of franchised truck dealers and independent workshops have joined the scheme. The Steering Group meets quarterly to ensure MPRS continues to reflect developments in vehicle technology and industry best practice. The group includes representatives from the Traffic Commissioners, IRTE, Logistics UK, the Road Haulage Association, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association, the Confederation of Passenger Transport and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Commenting on the scheme, Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of NFDA, said: ‘MPRS plays an important role in promoting high standards across the commercial vehicle sector and gives operators confidence in the quality of maintenance being carried out.
