April continued a positive boost for new motorcycle registrations amidst uncertainty in the market caused by the beginning of 2025’s shortfall. New registrations, whilst still negative compared to 2024, are now showing signs of recovery, closing the month and the beginning of Q2 at -14.6%. This improvement in April reduces the year-to-date market decline to a -22.8% from an end of Q1 -25.8%. Symon Cook, Head of National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA), commented on the latest MCIA figures, citing them as an encouraging boost for the market heading into the summer months. However, he added that when comparing the figures to 2024, the market’s overall decline remains disappointing and there is an uncertainty amongst motorcycle dealers which the Government needs to address. There are still high stocks of unsold pre-registered bikes from the end of 2024 which will be impacting new sales. Nevertheless, NMDA is optimistic that in the upcoming months, warmer weather and the prime selling season will continue this recent uptake in registrations and a strong recovery.
