“NFDA is pleased to have presented to the Economy Committee yesterday on the effects of the Windsor Framework for Northern Ireland’s automotive retail sector. Dealers are operating at a disadvantage with limited access to GB vehicles and growing restrictions due to the issue of type approval.” Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), commenting on concerns raised by NFDA at Northern Ireland’s Committee for the Economy regarding the impact of the Windsor Framework, said: During the session, representatives of Northern Ireland franchised car dealers warned that these issues would increase costs for car owners, reduce consumer choice and have “very, very significant” consequences for local businesses and employment. Dealers stressed the need to restore access to the GB market as they currently cannot access any GB stock. NFDA NI representative told the committee that Northern Ireland is becoming ‘almost an island in our own right’ due to type approval. Robinson concluded: “NFDA will continue to engage with government and lobby on behalf of Northern Ireland dealer’s concerns that the market is treated separately, caught between two governing bodies.”
