Government has announced measures to tackle car clocking by adding the practice to the list of banned commercial practices under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
The move applies to businesses selling cars to consumers and aims to protect buyers from deceptive sales tactics while supporting legitimate automotive retailers across the UK. NFDA highlights that transparent practices are essential to maintaining consumer confidence across the automotive retail sector and ensuring a fair-trading environment for franchised dealers.
Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of NFDA said: “NFDA supports the decision to add car clocking to the list of banned commercial practices. Franchised retailers are committed to transparency and delivering the highest standards for consumers. Stronger enforcement against fraudulent practices protects buyers and automotive businesses.”
