The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) has commented on the latest European commercial vehicle registration figures published by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The European data shows a positive start to 2026, with van registrations up 2.3%, and trucks rising 10.7% in the first quarter. Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of NFDA, said: ‘ Overall, Q1 2026 shows encouraging growth in Europe across the commercial vehicle sector. This reflects a degree of recovery in the market, although performance remains uneven across regions. ‘ While uptake of electrically chargeable vehicles is increasing, progress remains gradual. Diesel continues to dominate, highlighting the ongoing challenges around infrastructure, affordability and operational suitability for zero-emission vehicles .’ Across Europe electric van registrations increased significantly, reaching 12% market share far higher than the current 9% market share being achieved in the UK and this with the punitive higher, government-enforced ZEV mandate demanding a target of 24%. Robinson concluded: ‘ Franchised dealers are committed to supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles, but this must be backed by the right conditions to accelerate adoption and provide confidence for businesses investing in new fleets .’ The National Franchised Dealers Association represents franchised vehicle dealers across the UK, advocating on their behalf to government, manufacturers and key stakeholders, and supporting members through industry insight, training and best practice.
