With the UK seeking to ensure its automotive sector can fully benefit from the European Union’s proposed ‘Made in Europe’ measures, National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) has responded that additional trade barriers could threaten vehicle choice and affordability.
Following reports that the UK, alongside Japan and Turkey, is seeking greater access to the proposals, amid concerns that some measures could favour vehicles assembled within the EU, NFDA believes avoiding additional barriers between the UK and European automotive markets will be important for maintaining competitiveness and supporting retailers and consumers.
Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of NFDA, said:
‘The UK and European automotive markets are closely connected, so it is important that British businesses are not put at a disadvantage.
‘We support efforts to secure full UK access to these measures and avoid unnecessary barriers that could ultimately affect retailers, vehicle choice and affordability.
NFDA will continue to represent the interests of franchised retailers and their customers as discussions progress.
