National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) has welcomed the Government’s decision to reclassify zero-emission goods vehicles between 3,501kg and 4,250kg as Class 7 vehicles for MOT testing from 1 June 2026, following continuous lobbying from the NFDA-CV section. Under the updated rules, these vehicles will be subject to Class 7 MOT testing, with the first test required three years after registration, aligning them with existing Class 7 standards. The change recognises the impact of battery weight on vehicle design and provides a more practical and consistent approach to testing as zero-emission vans become increasingly common in commercial fleets. NFDA Chief Executive Sue Robinson, said ‘ This is a really welcome change. It makes things clearer and more practical for dealers and fleets, while reflecting the reality of how these zero-emission vans are being used and built today .’ NFDA has consistently raised the need for regulatory certainty in this area and believes the change will help reduce complexity for dealers and fleet operators as the market continues to evolve.
